Kanye West x Christine Centenera S/S '12 collection

For the past few months rumours have been circulating the fash pack, suggesting that Kanye West was to launch his own clothing line come S/S '12. Today, Harper's BAZAAR Australia has confirmed the news.

BAZAAR also revealed that their part-time, jet setting style muse, full-time fashion editor Christine Centenera has also been consulting on the collection.

“Christine Centenera has been consulting on the collection since meeting West in March at the A/W 11-12 collections in Paris,” BAZAAR web editor Anna McLeod wrote on the magazine’s website this afternoon. “Centenera has since been flown to Paris twice monthly to work with West.”

Is it just me or could this be the most anticipated collection of the, err, century?!

I caught up with Kym Ellery for 30 Days of Fashion & Beauty to find out more about the DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship, coping with pressure of the industry and her hopes for the future.

How does it feel to be a finalist for the DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship?
I am so excited to be able to be a part of this!

The Scholarship aims to identify Australia’s emerging fashion talent – do you still consider yourself an ‘emerging’ designer despite such success on an international scale?
Definitely. I think one emerges for a very long time as our globe and industry is a big one.

What would winning the scholarship mean for you?
It would be a huge honour to say the least!

You grew up experiencing the world of fashion alongside your artist mother, is she an inspiration to you?
My mother is such a huge inspiration. She is one of the smartest most talented and the strongest woman that I know. Most of all she is incredibly humble; a quality in her that I admire the most.

You moved to London to study at Central Saint Martins – what made you return to Australia?
I had a job offer that I couldn’t resist. Working in publishing is something I really wanted to do and thoroughly enjoyed. I took three and a half years to get to know that side of the industry before launching E L L E R Y properly.

You spend quite a lot of time in Paris – is this where you take inspiration for the label?
Largely yes. I think that the French have this impeccable way of dressing. I love to come here to re-ground my eye through observing “chic” at it’s best.

You’ve revealed hopes to show at Paris Fashion Week, do you feel pressure to take your label to this next level?
I love what I do and I am excited to be able to show new people on new shores what I do and give them a glimpse into my creative vision for garments.

It’s not just your label getting the attention of the fashion community – how does it feel to be considered a style icon yourself?
I’m flattered. I just wish I had more time to dress each morning. Running a business and label is all consuming so sometimes I feel I drop the ball in this department but I do love getting dressed for an occasion and for everyday life.

Do you have any exciting plans coming up?
I am currently working on the E L L E R Y gazette . issue two. I am really excited to launch this book. I am working with some really inspiring people on this project so I can’t wait to showcase their work.

For his spring 2011 collection, Dion Lee looked to Ancient Greek sculpture for inspiration, incorporating it with his trademark minimalist detailing of sharp, clean cuts. The collection fuses Lee’s flair for visual illusion with the traditional practice of trompe-l’oeil – a classic art technique that results in the illusion of a 3D print. Lee scores another coup d'état by booking Amanda Ware as the face of the collection. The collection drops into stores July 7.

We caught up with make-up maestro Napoleon Perdis backstage at Dion Lee's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show.

A dewy base and radiant glow were the key elements behind Dion's beauty look, which combined to create understated, baby doll glamour.

"It's about primer, concealer and light-patrol," Napoleon says. "It's easy and on the go."

Take note of our top tips to create this look at home.

Dewy base
Start by smoothing Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer over your face. Next, add a little radiance to your skin by applying a dollop of liquid illuminator (we love Napoleon Perdis Strobe Cream). For a flawless canvas, blend a concealer pen into any spots or red areas.

Peachy cheeks
For a natural, just-been-kissed flush, blend Napoleon Perdis Light Patrol into your dewy skin. Mix rose, pink ice and silver for a cool, luminous glow. Lightly blend the luminiser (with warm fingers — trust us!) across your cheek bones in a downwards motion — tracing from the top of your ear to the side of your lips.

Top tip: Suck in your cheeks and press your index fingers under your cheekbones. This will give you an idea of where you need to be shading.

"Add a liner or a lipstick to rock this look all year round," Napoleon says. "Clean, uniform and effortless — it's an evolution!"

Miss Unkon's whimsical beauty

The hair and make-up at Miss Unkon's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show was a charming mix of innocence and creativity meets tribal chic.

Models fluttered around backstage as they prepared to be beautified by the master of make-up himself, Napoleon Perdis.

"It's all about childlike abandon," Napoleon said when asked about his inspiration. "It is an expression of soul."

A dewy base, terracotta lids and a shimmer dusted below the eyes combined to create this fanciful look.

Here's our how-to guide for achieving this runway-ready look at home.

Flawless dewy base
Start by creating a creamy base by smoothing Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer over your face. Next, brighten your skin with a slather of liquid illuminator. Then, buff Napoleon Perdis Sheer Genius Foundation into your skin, gradually building for coverage.

Terracotta lids
To begin, apply a creamy terracotta shadow (we love Napoleon Perdis Colour Disc in Tequila Sunrise) to your lower lids, blending to the lash line. Then, contour your peepers by smoothing a peachy shadow over your upper lids, finishing at the brow bone. Glow-ified apples

It's time to say au revoir to groomed brows and give a big ol' welcome to this season's in-your-face arches. The verdict? Totally chic.

Like most fashion and beauty trends, the status of the bold brow seems to wax and wane. People either love 'em or hate 'em.

But if the fashion world's hottest new icon (ahem, Bambi Northwood-Blyth) is anything to go by, it looks like they're here to stay.

Toss those tweezers and grab a mirror, ladies — it's time to go bold.

Brush your brows in an upwards motion with an eyebrow comb.
Using an eyebrow pencil (one shade lighter than your natural colour), fill in the fine gaps between your natural hairs.
Next, dip an angled eyebrow brush into eye shadow powder of your natural brow colour and fill each brow. This will deepen the look, without channeling "Brows gone wild".
Finish the look by spritzing your brows with a light-hold hairspray, combing to style.

"Prevent any excess breakage during the colder months by wearing your hair out more often," says Sam. "Using a tie every day can cause extra breakage."

In with the blow-dry, out with the hot-iron
"Treat your hair to a break and wear it natural, rather than over styling it," says Sam. "Continue to use a hair dryer but forget about the irons!"

Pamper yourself – it’s good for you!
"Finally, make sure you visit your hairdresser regularly," says Sam. We recommend booking in every 6-8 weeks for a trim. "This will any remove dry, split ends and keep your hair looking healthy and strong."

Sam’s top winter style tips:

Keep it simple, yet sexy.
Don't go dark for winter, go pastel.
Wear waves, not curls. Elegant and sassy.

Style or trend? I think style. Trends are always changing but style is individual. It's nice having those key pieces in your wardrobe, like vintage that you can wear all year round.

Who are your favourite Australian designers? Dion Lee, Josh Goot and Ellery. They're my friends too so it's great having the chance to support them. Even when I go overseas I still wear Australian designers. We just have such great brands!

What's your must-have piece this season? Leather pants and a good blazer.

Do you have any style icons? I love Chloe Sevigny, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung.

Do you have any exciting plans for Australian Fashion Week? This year I'll be working with stylist and blogger Romy Frydman during fashion week, which is super exciting!

What's your favourite city to shop in? Definitely Paris.

What's your top body-confidence tip? If you're healthy and happy on the inside it will show on the outside.

Can you spill any of your beauty secrets? Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. I also love products like Dove tinted moisturiser, which I carry everywhere, and I can't get enough of coconut water.

Do you have any exciting plans for the rest of the year? I'm just happy to be home in Australia right now with friends and family. Can't get any better than that!

Minimal fuss, maximum glam

Babydoll beauties walked down the Marc Jacobs runway this season, signaling the return of simple, carefree glamour.

Instead of the modern edginess that has taken over the catwalk recently, the Marc Jacobs beauty team opted for a traditional, sweet and innocent make-up look.

Here's our how-to guide to make-up's new minimal.

Skin: The models' faces were kept dewy and natural with a hint of rosiness on the cheeks.

How to: Treat your skin to a good ol' moisturise and follow with a liquid illuminator. Then apply a mineral liquid foundation, lightly applying it in circular motions, gradually building for coverage. Finish with a brush of pink blusher down the cheekbones.

Eyes: The wow-ness of this look is all in the lids.

How to: Apply a creamy peach shadow to your upper lids, using a small eye shadow brush to blend. Then, contour your eye by applying a deeper, orangey shade to the crease. Using black, liquid eyeliner, draw a thick line across your lash line, finishing with a cat-eye flick. (Top tip: use your outer lashes as a guide for how long to draw the flick.) Keep your lashes simple, with a light coat of lengthening mascara.

Lips: Keep them fresh for a totally natural pout.

How to: Start by applying a lip primer then trace the lips with a light pink liner to define. Fill your lips with a rose-coloured lip stain, keeping fresh with a regular slick of neutral balm.

Hair: Pinned back neatly puts the focus on your face.

How to: Slick your hair back into a neat bun — pinned at the back of your head.

CONFIRMED: Riccardo Tisci for Dior

Italian-born designer, Riccardo Tisci, has been confirmed as the successor of John Galliano and the new creative director of Christian Dior.

The news comes just two days after Givenchy's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection show in Paris, with Harpers Bazaar's editor-at-large, Derek Blasberg, taking to his Twitter to announce the appointment.

"I was just told backstage at the Katy Perry concert," Blashberg wrote. "That Riccardo Tisci is confirmed at Dior".

Tisci has fronted French fashion house Givenchy, since 2005, and is sure to introduce his gothic minimalism to the already evident eclectic approach at Dior.

Already having cemented himself as a stand-out within the industry, Tisci is sure to be a welcome addition to the house of Christian Dior.

"I think Riccardo deserves the [Dior] position," Vogue Japan editor Anna Dello Russo stated. "He's becoming a very mature artist. For me, Givenchy was the best show of the season so far."

But one question remains: Who will take the reins at Givenchy?

As Christian Dior are in the midst of their greatest calamity yet, the fashion industry is already casting its votes as to who should be next to take the helm of the legendary fashion house.

Christian Dior suspended its creative director, John Galliano, after claims that he hurled racist and anti-Semitic insults at two people during an incident at a café in Paris on Thursday night.

The incident comes as Galliano was preparing to showcase Dior’s AW 11-12 collection at Paris fashion week on Friday, and his own eponymous line on Sunday.

Sure, Galliano’s actions were severe and of an odious nature, but I’m admittedly surprised at Dior’s balls (sorry but there really was no other word), to fire John, as the creative director of 15 years’ bestowal is –let’s face it – irreplaceable.

However, as the legendary fashion house prepares to close the door on its Galliano chapter, his knee-high napa leather boots must be filled, and fast.

My vote? Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci.

When the hunter becomes the hunted

Photographer Yvan Rodic is causing a fashion frenzy in the streets,

writes Leni Andronicos.

Yvan Rodic has a sharp eye for detail. “Why is there no sugar,

but salt?” he challenges the waitress, seconds into our early afternoon

meeting in the tranquil setting of Kawa café on Sydney’s Crown St.

It’s the first time we’ve met, but the porcelain-skinned, Swiss-born,

33-year-old, who is wearing a tailored shirt and cigarette trouser

combination, greets me with "faire la bise" and is far more charming

than I had imagined.

Rodic, clad with a black Napa leather briefcase and a Canon

G-12 cast around his neck, is the inventive persona behind street style

blog phenomenon, Face Hunter.

His seemingly candid observations of the world’s style elite have

transported him to the upper echelons of what is considered a

community of “far more photographers than the stylish”.

There are few of his kind who manage to capture style, culture, attitude and emotion on film, so exquisitely as he does.

Perhaps it’s his modesty or objection to the label “photographer”, but Rodic prefers to describe his creative pilgrimage as “a fascination for people and their individuality”.

“I don’t think I’m doing fashion photography at all,” says Rodic. “What I’m doing right now is more of a cultural exploration. One way to understand contemporary culture is to observe the way its people dress.”

In search of a greater understanding, Rodic travels the world hunting the stylish, capturing “moments not images” and letting the world in – for a mere moment – to his gaze.

So what does it mean to be stylish in the eyes of the Face Hunter?

“Style is just an expression which allows individuals to expose themselves,” says Rodic. “If they feel good in their life and in their skin, it will also be reflected in their style.”

As for choosing his subjects, the criteria is – yes, you guessed it – beauty. “I like to get beautiful photographs, so yes, I like beautiful people – it’s no mystery. But a lot of girls are beautiful and boring; and I will not photograph them. I look for a global feeling of attitude, creativity and happiness. I like people who stand out, but in a healthy way.”

From approaching his subjects to capturing their emotions in frame, Rodic - despite being of a quiet disposition - describes the process as very intimate.

“You want to be surprised,” he says. “I hope, every time, to find something that I have never seen or expected before. It’s like being seduced. You don’t know what is going to seduce you until you see it”.

Sunset eyes at New York Fashion Week

We know the fashion world has always had a weakness for high-voltage colours, but will our beauty bags be the latest accessory to home these hues?

For his New York Fashion Week show, American designer Thakoon chose to mirror his Masai tribe-inspired collection with eye-catching, bold eyes.

Models sported a bright palette of orange, pink, and red eye shadows. "I thought about African sunsets," said Diane Kendal, Thakoon's head make-up artist. "It's fun."

But let's face it, the majority of us aren't fashion models stepping out on a runway at New York Fashion Week. So, if you love this wacky runway trend but think there's no way you can pull it off, read on.

The trick to keeping the rainbow eye street-safe is to leave the rest of your face minimal.

As a base, try using an illuminating, light powder such as MAC Iridescent Pressed Powder, which will help to even out skin tone and highlight with a touch of colour.

Next, coat your lids in a matte lip pencil in your chosen colour (try fuschia pink, electric cerise or bright tangerine. We love BYS Eyeliner Pencil in Neon Pink), starting at your inner corner, and tracing to the furthest point on your brow line. Fill the outline with colour, as this will help to hold the eye shadow in place.

With its violent hues, exuberant prints and playful silhouettes, there’s no denying the gentle elegance behind fashion has passed. Welcome to the new minimalism – as maximalism. Writes Leni Andronicos

It doesn’t take a Chanel-drenched, editing, front-rower to tell you that a minimalistic approach was once the key to understated glamour. With their neutral colour palettes, delicate tailoring and womanly silhouettes –the spring/summer collections of last season were an obvious ode to the female revolution.

However, this season, fashion closed the door on austerity and indulged in an extravagance of colour not seen since 90s Chanel.

The reincarnation was translated through an understanding for both comfort and style– complimented with total shock-factor simplicity – as neon brights, jolting hues and voluptuous ‘60s-inspired silhouettes took centre stage.

Swinging splashes of crimson and fuchsia were seen at Lanvin, while Jil Sander shocked with the unlikely pairing of couture-like skirts and meek white tees.

The optically confusing dresses at Versus said confidence with a capital C and lent an irrepressible cool to the fashion peculiar.

Finally, there came Laura Lusuardi at MaxMara, who managed to capture this positivity in its best. High-voltage, colour combinations in mannish silhouettes –orange, yellow and violet for example – breezed through like a breath of fresh air. Her simplistic, lean contours and bold outlines spelt B-A-N-G and highlighted this season’s obsession with shape.

Last season, had you told us we’d be plucking banana-yellows, zesty-oranges and bubblegum-blues from a rainbow of fashion’s new “fresh”, we’d have laughed.

While we love what the warm months bring to our year (bold brights, clashing prints and micro-hems) we're even more excited that it brings audacious colours for lips!

Dare to go bold this season with fluorescent lips in shades of pink and orange. Can't be swayed? Ditch the nerves and follow our how-to guide to the puurfect pout.

If you're planning on donning a set of bright lips, keep the rest of your makeup minimal
Try an illuminising face powder, such as Napoleon Perdis Translucent Loose Powder, and dress your lashes in only a light application of mascara.

Exfoliate your lips
Making sure your lips are smooth pre-application, will help the lipstick be as long-lasting as possible. It's as easy as brushing your toothbrush gently across your lips, but for a pro-esque job, take a tiny drop of Lucas' Papaw Ointment and mix it with a pinch of sugar.

Prime your lips
Lip primer will not only moisturise the lips, but will give your lipstick something to hold onto so it lasts and lasts.

Line your lips
Do not — we repeat — do not draw a big old chunky line around your lips then fill it with colour. That's a major lip faux pas. Choose a liner close to your lipstick colour and apply by tracing your natural lip line. Blend by rubbing your index finger over your lips. It will intensify the colour as well help to minimise any obvious wear off.

Apply your colour
Start with a cream finish lipstick (we love Napoleon Perdis DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara), and then apply a gloss in a similar shade on top. Also apply a clear gloss on top of your chosen shade and finish with a shimmer gloss — gently blotted to the centre of your lips.

It might seem a little heavy at first, but these extra steps will help your lip colour last longer — even after a serious pash!

Confidence
Fluorescent lips aren't for the fainthearted. So if you want to avoid the colour wearing you, rock this look by showing off some killer confidence!

Attending Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival

Sydney is such an amazing city. I feel myself saying this over and over again, but i really do love it. It has been my home for the past nine weeks and i can't picture myself leaving. The architecture, the art, the fashion, the people, it really is great.

I have been working loads, with 30 Days of Fashion & Beauty taking up most of the past nine weeks. But with the month long event coming to a close this week, i have been in training for my new position as the Online Editor of DOLLY Magazine which I officially begin October 5th.

Aside from spending my days writing about the most fabulous fashions and the most controversial celebrity gossip, attending designer sample sales and runway shows and hanging out with Cleo bachelors at work parties, I've been working super hard and loving every second of it.

Besides from the lack of blogging, I actually have been doing a million things this past few weeks...mainly preparing from my big move to Sydney. A few months back I flew down here after getting an interview with Grazia Magazine. After i was told a couple of weeks ago that i didn't get the job (blah), I was offered another one, a considerably better one. So hey, I'm not complaining!

On Friday, I finished packing up all my stuff, including my new puppy Uffie, and came to Sydney. Checked into my amazing apartment in the heart of the city and went and grabbed myself a chai.

And today, was my first day. I was welcomed at the six story office as the fashion producer for ACP's annual month-long event '30 Days of Fashion & Beauty' and associate fashion producer for Cleo Magazine. What a dream.

My day basically consisted of training, coffee, researching, coffee, writing articles, coffee, running the 100m home in my new Balenciages to feed Uffie, coffee, and meeting with the ACP editors to plan content streams for the next week and finally running home through rain and 9 degree temps.

And I can safely say, it was one of the best days of my life. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Anywayyyy, i'll keep posting about my adventures with ACP and Ninemsn over the next few weeks.

And ill try and get some photos in sometime too. Not a fan of the mirror/iphone photo really.

After months of speculation as to who would carry on as successor at fashion house Alexander McQueen, after Lee McQueen’s passing earlier this year, Sarah Burton was officially named creative director.

Burton had worked with McQueen since 1996 as head of womenswear design and after Lee’s passing, led a designer team of five to finish the only 80% completed autumn/winter 2010-11 collection in time for its showing at Paris Fashion Week.

Many were afraid that the McQueen aesthetic would be trampled with the appointment of a new creative director, and believed that the label should have been laid to rest along with his legacy at the time of McQueen’s passing.

Man was everyone wrong. Check out the latest Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 collection designed by Sarah Burton.

His classic pieces like the Victorian jacket, the evening gown and the tuxedo dress were reconfigured with new silhouettes but it is obvious that Burton shares the same instinct for drama and glamour, as McQueen once did.

The most influential fashion college in the world, Central St. Martin’s College of Art in London, hosted its annual graduate show last week in front of industry legends, buyers and media. With125 graduates debuting their collections also that week, the college only chose its 40 most promising talents to show during its annual press showing.

The event is undoubtedly the most highly anticipated graduate show in fashion, with some of the greatest names in the industry having graduated from the college. If you just take a look at their alumni, which includes the likes of Stella McCartney, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Riccardo Tisci and Gareth Pugh as well as Australia’s own Kym Ellery and Daniel Askill, it is clear as to why the college promises a new generation of genius to the world.

The L’Oréal Professionnel Award for Young Talent is also awarded to the top student each year and this year that was Yi Fang Wan. She impressed the judges with her exquisite collection of intricately draped neutral-hued cottons and linens that were voluptuously gathered, with an intricate focus on pleating and drapery.

In second place was Phillip Patterson with a well executed and completely wearable menswear collection. Delicately tailored trousers, washed knits, and khaki jackets were all of felted and fused fabrics that will undoubtedly be walked straight off the catwalk into the wardrobes of stylish men right around the world.

Second runner up was awarded to Alex Mullins who used fluorescent overtones, elaborate tasselry, surrealist prints and symbolic headpieces to create a playful approach to his graduate collection.

Honorable mentions went to print wear student Eloise Jephson for her showcase of feminine fantasy, with hand painted silks bearing fantastical creatures paired with enchanting turbans.

Special mentions also went to Sorcha O’Raghallaigh who closed the show with a juxtapositioned collection modelled by stilt-walkers in bridal-inspired costumes of bejewelled knits, rose-strewn silks, and lace, veiled in gossamer-like tulle.

The trends that dominated the runway including multi-dimensional surrealist pieces, fantastical prints, distorted forms, and armatures of all kinds, were a breath of fresh air for the industry with recent seasons dominated by simplistic design and neutral colour palettes.

From inflatable swimwear, to models on stilts, and ridiculously exuberant designs, this year’s Central St. Martin’s gradate showcase was undoubtedly a flamboyant display of the worlds next big names in fashion.

On my first day off, in lets say ten years, I decided to take the dangerous but ridiculously fulfilling ride into one of my favourite stores Jean Brown. As I flicked through the latest from DVF, Celine and Chloe, there was some that caught my eye and others that would have probably looked far more fabulous on Pat Field. And then, from the corner of my eye I spotted ALEXANDER MCQUEEN’S SPRING/SUMMER ‘10 PLATO’S ATLANTIS LEGGINGS!

I could have died at that very moment, and felt content with my life. For some reason since their debut at Paris Fashion Week last year, I thought they were either show pieces or couture, and not even bothered with a savings plan or credit increase application to fund my ownership at the time of their release.

But now, I had these bad boys strapped to my pins and was deriving escape plans from the store (Sydney Bristow eat your heart out)

So on that note, if ya know anyone with a small fortune willing to help a brother out, lemme know.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen

After months of speculation that Alexander McQueen could not live on without creator and chief designer Lee McQueen after his passing in February this year, the fashion group Gucci has appointed Sarah Burton as creative director.

Burton has been the late designer’s right hand woman, and at the time of McQueen’s death, led a design team of five who were then able to complete the only 80% finished autumn/winter 2010-11 collection in time for its showing at Paris Fashion Week.

The collection went on to receive critical acclaim for her interpretation and deep understanding of McQueen’s vision, and Burton’s appointment came as no surprise. "The creation of modern beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee's vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy," she said.

Burton, 35, joined Alexander McQueen in 1996, just a year before her graduation from London’s Central St. Martins College of Art and in 2000, was named head of womenswear design.

When the Gucci Group announced plans to continue the label after McQueen’s passing earlier this year, much of the industry were unsure of the stability of the labels future. Rumours began circulating about who would replace the legendary designer, with Gareth Pugh often cited as the top candidate.

Many believed that the label should have been laid to rest, as a sign of respect for Lee and his great contribution to the international fashion industry.

Here at Tangent we couldn’t be more thrilled about Burton's recent appointment. After nearly 16 years with McQueen and her unimaginable success of the AW 10 collection, we believe that Burton will help strengthen the future of the company and allow it to continue in the aesthetic that Lee would have wished for.

Jonathan Akeroyd, the Alexander McQueen chief executive, praised Burton's talent and publically welcomed her as new creative director. "We are delighted that Sarah has agreed to take on the role of creative director. Having worked alongside Lee McQueen for more than 14 years, she has a deep understanding of his vision, which will allow the company to stay true to its core values. We are ready to enter a new phase in the brand's history," Akeroyd said.

So what’s the next move for the team at Alexander McQueen? The label plans to launch a men’s underwear collection under license to Italy’s Albisetti SpA next month.

And with no confirmation of when Burton’s debut is expected, all we can do is wait, and hope, for a collection that continues Lee McQueen’s brilliant legacy.

A little delayed, but as promised, here is my Rosemount Australian Fashion Week wrap up for TANGENT MAGAZINE.
After a week of crazy early mornings, and even later nights, I'm only just beginning to catch up on missed sleep.
But alas, the early mornings start again tomorrow as I've got to catch a 6am flight, Sydney bound, for an interview at GRAZIA. Wish me luck x

All good things eventually come to an end, and so here at Tangent we are wrapping up our Rosemount Australian Fashion Week coverage with a little about what we loved and loathed as well as all the highlights from front-row, backstage and the very anticipated after-parties.

So what’s a better way to kick things off then with our favourite collection of the week? The title for ‘best collection’ goes to avant-garde genius, Konstantina Mittas. Her collection ‘The Night of Enithromons Joy’, was exactly as the pre-show brief read, it revealed ‘a paradoxically futuristic world of myth ruled over by Greek Moon Goddess Hecate.’ The show was opened by total babe and one of our favourite models of the week Alexandra Agoston O’Connor, swamped in a nude floor-length gown supported by a diagonal collar of ridiculous proportions in true Konstantina style. The collection continued with an array of fierce cuts and sculptured bodices, in shades of canary, frost and black. Expectations were high, and Mittas delivered.

RAFW is celebrated right around the world for not only the beauty of our designer collections but the theatrics involved in their debut. We anticipated the title of ‘greatest theatrics’ to be one of the hardest to award, but without doubt the title goes to, Romance Was Born and their Renaissance Dinosaur show. Design duo, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales are notorious for their interpretation of performance, but no one expected to be literally blown out of this world when a show ten times as wondrous as their last was promised this year round. A runway made from stone and bark, adorned with crystals and incense swept a sense of nostalgia through the hall at the University of Sydney, while the sound of stomping dinosaur feet signaled the start of the show. After models in heavily embellished looks flooded from the smog-disguised cave at the start of the runway, classic Madonna welcomed a medieval bride straddling the shoulders of a male companion, while the show was closed with a standing ovation.

Tangent’s award of best hair goes to Gail Sorronda for her towering hornet nests that beautifully complemented the billowing layers of her classic smock-style dresses.
Best make-up goes to the team at Birthday Suit for their brilliant bursts of fluorescents and the wildest body-art goes to Camilla, for her two Avatar-esque dancers that opened the show (after a rumored six hour prep time!)

After an international season of the return of classicism and neutrals to the runway, it was surprising to note the number of prints at this year’s event. Young designer and LMFF award winner Dion Lee, takes out best print for his use of physcadelic, crystal-dyed fabric in shades of lilac, royal blue and blood orange.

The award for deceptive cleverness goes to Gary Bigeni for his use of architectural shapes, drapes and clever twists, tucks and folds. He never ceases to amazes his audiences with his use of colour and so Bigeni also takes out best use of blocked colour.

Most conceptual collection goes to Anthony Capon, Project Runway winner and designer behind A concept. An androgynous collection featuring exaggerated shoulders, detailed mesh and a plethora of black patent leather was in pure Capon flamboyance.

All these futuristic movements supported by innovation and forms of structure, must be balanced out and for that, the award of feminine fantasy goes to Courtney Meyer, designer behind Miss Unkon. Model’s clad with daisies danced down the schoolyard themed runway in ruffles and pleats of vintage-floral print and musk chiffon. The collection ‘Love is like a dreamland’ took us all on a journey back to the days of when we first fell in love.

Amongst shows by some of Australia’s most celebrated design veterans, we were exposed to the brilliance of our new generation designers. The Tangent award for best emerging designer goes to Christopher Dobosz for his wild accessories including light-up sunglasses and his play on folds, lines and shapes cascading down each garment. Although, Elliot Ward-Fear, who has since been compared to international design gods by the likes of Gareth Pugh and Herve Leger, closely followed Dobosz’s success.

Wildest model goes to Avril Alexander for her backstage flirtatiousness and mischievous antics, while sexiest runway strut goes to the model’s at Fernando Frisoni.

The shoes most likely to cause injury? That award goes to Elliot Ward-Fear for his 8-inch platform booties. Thankfully enough, only one model made the crash.

And last but not least, worst hangover from the best after-party? That goes to Fernando Frisoni and Kirrily Johnson for their ‘Rukus’ party, which took place at the North Bondi Italian Food and was attended by guests including Lara Bingle, Maurice Terzini, Dion Lee, Michelle Jank and Dan Single.

So Paris fashion week has welcomed the creme de la creme of the industry and hosted its most anticipated show of the season, Chanel. Usually for me, by this time I have studied every photo of the collection stitch to stitch on style.com but this year I'm a bit confused and don't know how to feel about the whole thing. Were the giant caveman bodysuits for real? Or just a media ploy and excuse for magazine fashion editors to be swarming for first dibs. The classic tweed has been re-invented into a BC-esque jacket and matched with fur pants that couldn't even do Heidi any favours. I did although like the idea behind the fur trimmed leather jackets and angora sweater dresses. So alas, long gone the days of looking into the future for fashion.

This past week has been hectic. Spent most of my days exchanging emails with my new-found New Yorkian friends at fashion week, trying to keep as updated with the shows as I possibly could (which may or may not have included 3am coffees and style.com). Aside from me being totally fucking lazy and abandoning my blog, life as been pretty hectic this past week. On Monday I had a meeting with young designer Edwina Sinclair for a feature that I did for PENY LANE which you can check out here. On Tuesday I got together my portfolio to present to the Editor of one of my favourite magazines (scored an interview..pray for me, please). And on Wednesday I spent the day contacting industry professionals and celebrities for a secret little project by Miss Unkon for our Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show in May! I'm exhausted, and its only Thursday..
Tomorrow I find out whether I've got the job (freaking out). Wish me luck!

It all went down in Sydney town

This weekend I flew to Sydney to watch my boy play at the latest party by the crew SUPERFUN HAPPYTIME. Supporting One Man Party (Soulwax), Le Castle Vania and Designer Drugs sweat was literally pouring off the ceiling of The Arthouse by 1 am. The next morning hungover as shit, i dragged Jack along with my to the Chanel store (a sydney trip isn't right without a visit to Chanel). I spotted an amazing ring that just had to be mine. Yay! Then it was time to head to the Ivy pool for Grandmaster flash and a couple of French martinis. 5pm came and we crossed the alley to watch Afrojack and Wolfgang Gartner destroying crowds in the courtyard. Plus, my outfit got us in for free. Thanks Dion. An amazing weekend all up. Bye Sydney!

Just when I thought i had reached the period in my week where no more money was to be spent and that extra couple of hundred bucks left over could go into Paris savings (yay, my flights are booked!), I come across the most amazing dress. Arnsdorf, ofcorse. And.. its perfect to wear under my latest Dion Lee piece, which still is not yet to debut. So, with such strong supporting evidence that it needed to be mine, I bought it. Sorry Paris!

Aprils Chance

A couple of months back I did some work with street clothing label Aprils Chance. Notorious for festival threads and their play on oversize, Aprils Chance can be found in a number of stores nation wide including Subfusco (Brisbane), ML DENIM (Melbourne) and The Con Artist (Sydney).
I've got another shoot with them tomorrow night. Let you know how it goes.

Jelly Journal

In my break from writing, I felt dissapointed with the rather blandness of my journals, and decided to cut up some mag pages (i should be frowned upon), and decorate their covers. In doing so I was slapped in the face with primary school nostalgia and returned to my inner kid. Who knew cut and paste could be so fun?
I also read an article that marked its territory in my top ten, and spent almost an hour sorting the purple jelly beans from the rest of the colours in the bag.
Running overtime, I really should get back to my stories (one down, four to go).

Bvlgari Bliss

Entering the doors of the Bvlgari store is one of my favourite things to do, but today's visit was far more fabulous than most of my past rendezvous in this particular fashion house. Two sparkling waters and a broken bank later, I walked out with my very first Bvlgari bag!
